Spiral potatoes or spiropapas. Recipe
Few people do not enjoy good fries, and for some time in the streets, we have found someone who prepares spiral potatoes or spiropapas. So today I invite you to prepare some at home, but this time, avoiding frying them, so we will use our toaster oven to prepare them.
Although the street stalls usually have some tool that facilitates cutting, the truth is that we can do it at home with the help of a wooden skewer and a sharp knife. They are great to prepare as a snack or to accompany hamburgers or roast beef.
Ingredients for 4 people
- 4 large white potatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, a spoonful of dried oregano and 4 wooden skewers.
How to make spiral potatoes or spiropapas
After washing and drying the potatoes, we will carefully insert the skewer in the center of the potato, ensuring that it crosses longitudinally. Next, we will place the potato already skewered on a cutting board, to make the process safer and faster.
At the edge of the potato, we will cut with the knife diagonally, without crossing the skewer. Without removing the knife, we will slowly turn the skewer, so that with a single cut we reach the other end of the potato. Once this is done, with the hands, we will separate the potato, we will see that in a couple of minutes we have made our spiral.
We will repeat the same with each potato. In a bowl mix olive oil, salt, pepper, and dried oregano, and with the help of a kitchen brush, we will varnish our potato spirals, before taking them to the preheated oven at 180ºC for 25 minutes.
The spiral potatoes or spiropapas are crispy on the outside, but tender and juicy on the inside. Depending on our tastes, we can accompany it with some spicy sauce, although the children will love it with a little ketchup. Also, to this basic recipe, we can twist it by changing the oregano for other herbs or spices.
